Minister Flags Ongoing Concerns Over India Despite Official Reassurances
There appears to be a considerable divide in the Canadian government over the alleged involvement of India in cases of foreign interference, which has been somewhat alleviated by the claims of the country's public safety minister, Gary Anandasangaree, who seemed to temper earlier claims of the threat no longer being present. Although the country's government recently claimed that they are "confident" that India is no longer involved in foreign interference, which is allegedly intended to ease the trade trip of Prime Minister Mark Carney to visit Modi in the near future, the public safety minister emphasized on Thursday that "there's still a lot of work to do." This comes from a government seeking to balance its "two-track approach" to dealing with the country's economic needs from one of the world's largest economies while also dealing with the safety issues at hand, which Sikh activists have argued have been evidenced in the "duty to warn" letters from the police in recent days.
